Who do you write like?

This was posted on FB by Lisa McMann about her writing. Give it a try and let me know what it says about your writing!

I analyzed three of my current/upcoming books, and this is what it told me:
GONE=Stephen King
CRYER'S CROSS (coming Feb '11) = Margaret Atwood
THE UNWANTEDS (coming fall '11) = Kurt Vonnegut

  1. I write like Margaret Mitchell! I have no idea who that is, but I'm about to find out.

  3. because i'm sure my writing style has changed throughout the years, i shall do a few of these.
first page of 41 says william gibson. no idea who that is.
first page of chapter 7 of 41 says david foster wallace. still no idea who that is.
first page of current last chapter of 41 says harry harrison. funny name, but still no idea!!!
first page of my unnamed book says j.d. salinger!!!! omg!!!! i know him!!! :P lol.
page of unnamed book where the story kicks into gear says stephen king!!! i know him too!! :P (just so you guys know, this might take a while...haha!!)
my entire short story about the witness protection program says arthur c. clarke. sounds vaguely familiar, but nothing's jumping out. i hope he writes romances, cuz that's the main point of that story... :P
Main Deck, my very first and most horrible short story says david foster wallace. again. that means either that page of 41 is worse than i thought or Main Deck is better than i thought. i'm thinking the former. because Main Deck is absolutle atrocious. ok, i think i've done as many as i can. ;) wk, do you know who any of these people are?? lol. i shall google them all.

  4. OK -- Hope you had success googling... I only know JD Salinger as well!!!! I think it's funny that the 'good one' turned out the same as the 'poor one'. :-)

  5. I'm bored and decided what my day need was a little more analysis so here we go:

First page or two of my very first novel (Tracy read this passage in class once)...Isaac Asimov-he's written in just about every genre but mostly science and astronomical stuff which makes sense given all the nature in the scene.

First page of the sequel...Stephen King-I don't think I need to really inform anyone of who he is.

First page of "the third" (my working title for the last on in that series. Even though it has a real title now, I apparently never change what it was saved as)...Margaret Mitchell-who (I'm sure we all know) wrote Gone with the Wind. The reason she doesn't have more books published is that she never got a chance to write them. She was hit by a car when she was pretty young (I want to say mid-twenties).

First page of a vampire story that I wish I didn't feel compelled to write...James Joyce-who did a lot of innovation with words and stuff, which makes sense because the vampires call humans prey all the time. He wrote Ulysses and Finnegan's Wake.

Short ghost story that I totally forgot I wrote and wish it had been my story for that Frankenstein assignment...Dan Brown-who wrote the Da Vinci Code.

Teaser for that one I was going to write about the girl allergic to sunlight...NO!!!!...Stephenie Meyer. I really don't know what to say to that. That is the worst thing I can ever imagine anyone saying about my writing.

As for a bunch of short stories and teasers for stuff that I'll finish writing if I ever have time...Charles Dickens, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, and Kurt Vonnegut (writer/artist but no books that I recognized).

So there is my extremely long, crazy book analysis.
